The demo

From my picture collection «miavista»:

A walk through Brussels in June 2014

From May 27 to June 27, 2014, I followed on the internet the March for Freedom, a transnational protest movement of around 400 refugees, migrants, sans-papiers and other activists. At the end of their 500 km march - starting in Strasbourg - I joined them in Brussels and filmed their big final demo in front of the European Commission.

March for Freedom

From May 27 to June 27, 2014, I followed on the internet the March for Freedom, a transnational protest movement of around 400 refugees, migrants, sans-papiers and activists. At the end of their 500 km march - starting in Strasbourg - I joined them in Brussels and filmed their impressive final demo in front of the European Commission.

With this blog I have highlighted some of the problems that activists face in human rights movements and how they can be overcome. The blog also poses the question of how different groups in society - students, researchers, artists, politicians - can become more involved in supporting the aims and activities of the sans-papiers movement.

In the meantime I have published an article on the March for Freedom in Interface, a journal for and about social movements, Volume 7 (1): 263 - 288 (May 2015).
